Ioanna graduated with a BS in Molecular and Cellular Biology and a BS in Clinical Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2023. Since then, she has worked as a research assistant in the Translational Cancer Rehabilitation Lab at the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab investigating the mechanisms involved in cancer cachexia, including preclinical models and human subject research. She has developed a preclinical exercise therapy protocol in a cancer cachexia mouse model and is investigating the impact of appetite stimulants on patient functional outcomes. Ioanna will be joining the lab in the fall of 2025, under the mentorship of Dr. Richard Simpson, as she pursues a PhD in Nutrition.
