Kyle Smith

Ph.D. Candidate

Kyle received his B.S. in Dietetics from the University of Georgia in 2016 and M.S. in Exercise Physiology from Florida State University in 2018. He subsequently became a Registered Dietitian (RD) before beginning his Ph.D. in Physiological Sciences at the University of Arizona in Dr. Simpson’s lab. Kyle’s prior research focused on muscle damage and inflammatory responses in ultra-endurance athletes to determine the immune system’s role in sports performance. Kyle currently has two major projects underway: (1) Studying the role of exercise and adrenergic signaling on immune cell redistribution and function as a means to augment cancer therapies and (2) Describing the immunological consequences of isolation and confinement in spaceflight analog environments to develop appropriate countermeasures to promote astronaut immune health.
